Vorwerk International Award Night 2022 (VIAN)

Vorwerk used the BELOW2 Standard to compensate the CO2 emissions of the International Award Night 2022 (VIAN).

COMPENSATION OF 620 TON CO2EQ .

Carbon footprint compensation of Vorwerk Award Night 2022 with BELOW2 Carbon Credits

For the first time, Vorwerk decided to get active in the field of compensating for CO2 emissions. Vorwerk chose BELOW2 as a compensation partner. BELOW2 Verified Carbon Impacts (VCI) are based on carefully verified regional projects, which directly impact fighting climate change. They are transparent, trustworthy, and focused on CO2 avoidance and removal. Those criteria were of utmost importance for Vorwerk to be fulfilled.

For the calculated carbon footprint of the event (F&B, energy, materials, hospitality, transport ground, part of mobility, and waste), Vorwerk has compensated 620 tons CO2 equivalent.

The carbon offsetting

Vorwerk’s carbon offsetting consists of 1 NFT representing 620 metric tons CO2 equivalent. It comprises Verified Carbon Impacts from C-Sink (biochar) and C-Avoidance (local heat). Their effects are transparent and scientifically verified.

The compensation is possible through partnering with local farming and renewable energy businesses to achieve this. These regional companies, which actively drive sustainable economic activities (such as biogas, solar, wind, or cogeneration power plants), generate additional revenues by issuing CO2 certificates. These can be reinvested to optimize, accelerate or strengthen the projects.

The detailed documentation contains exhaustive information on the selected projects to compensate for the carbon footprint of the Vorwerk Award Night 2022 in Lisbon. The Blockchain information can be looked up at the end of this page.

Selected Projects

VCI-A Avoidance

Location: Lisbon, Portugal

Project executor: SEVA, Sociedade Energética de Valdante, SA (Energetus S.A.)
Time frame: 2022
Type: CO2 avoidance with local heat

The future emission of carbon is prevented. The VCI-A are based on avoided CO2 emissions in the cogeneration plant linked to the Somelos textile industry. We compare the aggregated CO2 emissions to the overall emissions caused by heat supply in Portugal. To determine this value, the kWh of the local heating networks are set in relation to the general heat supply in Portugal.

VCI-A Avoidance

Location: Moosseedorf, SwitzerlandLocation: Moosseedorf, Switzerland

Project executor: Bigler KLG
Time frame: 2022
Type: CO2 avoidance with local heat

The future emission of carbon is prevented. The VCI-A are based on avoided CO2 emissions and are verified from local heating grids powered by biogas plants. Thermal energy from biogas plants is put into combined heat and power units and distributed to nearby consumers afterward. We compare the aggregated CO2 emissions to the overall emissions caused by heat supply in Switzerland. To determine this value, the kWh of the local heating networks are set in relation to the general heat supply in Switzerland.

VCI-S-1000 Removal

Location: Lower Saxony, Germany

Project executor: Bioenergy Dieckmann eG, 38350 Helmstedt
Time: 2022
Type: Long-term carbon sequestration in biochar

When burned or decomposed, plant residues release the CO2 they have bound. However, if plant residues are converted into plant charcoal in a pyrolysis process, a large proportion of the CO2 is bound in the Biochar. Once this Biochar is spread on a field and incorporated into the soil, it is stable in the soil for over 1,000 years.
